Helping young adults grow through learning, job experience, and daily life skills.
Life Academy is a structured, two-year program designed for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities who are ready to take the next step in learning, working, and living more independently. Participants grow in practical life skills, social confidence, and career readiness—supported every step of the way by a caring, experienced team.
What to Expect
Life Academy combines small-group learning, hands-on experiences, and local partnerships to help students grow in independence and confidence. The program runs Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, on a semester schedule. Each semester includes 12-week course blocks, community internships, and enrichment activities at Camp Whitcomb and Waukesha County Technical College.
Students engage in:
- Courses in personal finance, safety, and healthy living
- Training in daily routines and independent living skills
- Support in building relationships and social confidence
- Real-world internship placements and job readiness
- Self-advocacy and personal growth opportunities
Along the way, each participant develops a Life Academy Plan (LAP) and Individualized Wellness Plan (IWP) tailored to their goals, builds a portfolio to prepare for future employment, and graduates with a certificate from Journey21 and WCTC. Most importantly, they leave with practical skills, strong relationships, and a renewed sense of purpose.
