2025 Summer Academy application and information now available!

We would like to introduce our Journey21 Summer Academy for young adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD) ages 15 or older. This program takes place in our Enrichment Center as well as the community, providing experiences to increase independent living and social skills and personal health awareness.

The SUMMER ACADEMY focuses on these 4 fundamental areas:

  1. Social Skills Development: Learn how to understand social cues, set boundaries and personal space, establish healthy relationships, develop and improve communication skills, following directions, showing respect, working in groups, expressing feelings, social problem solving, managing conflict and being a good listener. Team building, communication skills, and working with others to accomplish a task will be woven in throughout the daily activities to enhance our social skills.

  2. Independent Living and Social Skills: Classes offered on learning and practicing the skills needed to live on your own. The focus on increasing the social skills needed on the job, in making and maintaining friends, and talking with people who live throughout your community.

  3. Recreation Activities: Every Wednesday we take a community trip enjoying what the summer has to offer at Wisconsin at Camp Whitcomb, Milwaukee County Zoo, Summerfest, State Fair Park, American Family Field and Lapham Peak to name a few.

  4. Health and Wellness: We learn how to develop healthy eating habits while learning basic cooking skills in our Teaching Kitchen. Focus is on learning the importance of daily exercise and fitness to live a healthy lifestyle.
